Berlin: An Intro

Salutations and enjoy!

After landing at BER and getting my bag, I made my way to the train to the city. After struggling to buy a ticket with the VBB app, I got on board the train and sought help from the flight attendant sitting across from me. She shares my frustration.  Nevertheless, I made it to my hostel and checked into my private room. After a good nap, I was ready to explore Berlin finally.

I booked a hostel with a fantastic location, right next to U Bernauer Strasse. My hostel was sitting on top of living history. After turning the corner from my temporary home was an outdoor museum and historical path. I walked it, learning about the wall and its development, the viewpoints of civilians and police officers, and the stories of those who dared to escape to West Berlin. I didn’t stop walking.

Along the way, I ran into more essential sites. I walked through the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, saw the US embassy, walked through the Brandenburg Gate, and finally set my eyes on the TV Tower. I had dreamed of this moment, seeing the TV Tower for quite some time. I decided to take advantage of the view and the weather by having currywurst, a Berlin staple, for lunch. As strange as it sounds, I am a fan of currywurst.

After recharging my phone and myself, I met up with a friend for dinner. We grabbed pizza and wine with a side of political discourse. The pizza was great, and the company was even better. After walking back to my hostel, I passed right out, knowing I would be walking a lot the next few days.
