Heat

Hi, there! I hope you’re well wherever you are. Also, I must say thank you for being here and reading this. According to the analytics, there are approximately 150 of you from 40 different countries. Isn’t that crazy?

If you didn’t finish reading the last post, this is your opportunity to click that button down there and read about my time in Berlin. However, it is a long one. So, I understand if you don’t bother reading it to find out I’m now in Thessaloniki, Greece. Hopefully, that clarifies the title of this blog post.

It is scorching. Every single day here has been above 30°C/86°, with the hottest day reaching 37°C/99°F. Now, this is not the hottest weather I have ever experienced. You may also believe that I’m just a wuss. I will not argue with that idea, but let me clarify. I left Moscow, a cold climate, two months ago with suitable clothing for weather both in Russia and Scandanavia. Like almost everyone else, I thought the war would not go on this long or that things would improve somehow. Unfortunately, they haven’t. I barely managed to get through a month in Egypt with two short-sleeved shirts and two pairs of shorts. With the weather warming up north, all I needed to do in Oslo and Berlin was take off my jacket. However, in Greece, it is even hotter than it was in Egypt a few weeks ago. So, if you couldn’t tell, I’m sweating it out.

Now, this post isn’t just about the weather. It is also about what happens next. On June 15th, I’ll be flying to Oslo via Copenhagen. I have never been to Copenhagen, and I’ll have a 12-hour layover that I’ll be taking advantage of by seeing the city as best as possible. The next evening, June 16th, I’ll be flying back to the US. I don’t necessarily know if this will be the end of my living abroad; I still have not decided. The rough plan, for now, is to get through this summer. I plan to go to the Finnish Lapland in August, and I may use the land border to make my way back to Russia to see my friends and pack up my belongings. Again, I still have no idea what happens after this summer. I am on the job hunt.

If you have any recommendations for Copenhagen, I’d love to hear them. Also, if you or someone you know has a spare car lying around in Connecticut, let me know! I will need wheels, and I’m happy to pay for insurance, return it with a full gas tank, and wash and detail it.

That’s all for now. Stay hydrated!

Aidan
